Craftcation Conference 2015

I am excited to share that I’ll be a presenter at the Craftcation Conference held in Ventura, CA on March 26-29, 2015.

Craftcation is an annual four day business + makers conference featuring industry professionals leading attendees in hands-on food & craft workshops and lectures and panels on creative business. Craftcation ignites the entrepreneurial spirit, strengthens craft and business skills and builds relationships in the creative community.

I have known the wonderful organizers of this event, Delilah Snell and Nicole Stevenson, for ages and am thrilled that the stars and schedules aligned for me to participate this year. For a complete description of the event including presenters, workshops and registration details please visit the Craftcation Conference website. I’ll be in such good company, as many of my very talented friends and colleague will also be presenting and we’d love to see you there as well!

Producing a DIY Video 101
Short format DIY instructional videos are becoming an increasing prevalent modern method of sharing your skills and talents. Join producer Robert Mahar in learning best practices for creating your own in-house crafting and cooking segments. This session will not focus on the technical aspects of equipment and software but rather on project ideation, developing content for your unique audience, advance preparation of materials and instructions, and the staging, set-up and styling of your shoot space. Optimize the effort you invest in creating a video to ensure an end product that shows you, your company and your brand in their best light!

Friday at 2:00pm, location: MAKE Ventura
Modern Himmeli Mobiles
Learn the basics of a vintage Nordic craft as Robert Mahar guides you through the creation and construction of a minimal, modern himmeli mobile. Originating in Finland as a traditional holiday decoration created from natural wheat or rye straw, you’ll be making an updated version in bright neon shades, optionally ornamented with happy ombré-hued tassels. Each participant will learn techniques, tips and tricks to successfully create their own modern himmeli mobile and decorative tassels. All tools and materials will be happily provided to begin your mobile along with extra goodies to continue crafting at home.
