Ghastly Embroidered Pincushion Workshop
Sew LA in the Atwater Village neighborhood of Los Angeles

In anticipation of Halloween, join us for an evening of corporeal crafting at the amazing Sew LA studio and create a ghastly embroidered pincushion (which also doubles as a pattern weight!) inspired by vintage anatomy charts.

Choose from a selection of beautifully macabre early 19th Century anatomical imagery custom printed onto cotton linen fabric which you’ll then embellish with hand embroidery. You’ll learn to stem stitch along the circulatory system, back stitch along the backbone and even get a little fancy with a pekingese stitch around the pancreas. Then pair your embroidered masterpiece with lovely linen and hand dyed wool felt to create a horrifically handsome and utilitarian pincushion filled with rice and walnut shells (keep those pins sharp!)

Perfectly suited for both beginners as well as advanced – instruction will cover basic to more intricate embroidery stitches. Students will also have the option to construct their pincushion by hand or machine. All materials (fabrics, embroidery floss, hoops and needles!) along with instructional diagrams are provided and included in the cost of the class.
