I’ve reached that favorite part of workshop preparation where I sit down to compile the student materials. On November 2, I’m delighted to be teaching my Embroidered U.S. Map Workshop at the much loved @oilandcotton in Dallas. One of the special components I’m tucking into each kit is a little reinforced 6” round fabric globe to keep your needles organized and in orbit when not in use! 🌎🪡

I love this project and can’t wait to show you the many ways you can embroider your adventures in the “Lower 48”: translating stitches into travel lines, state outlines and map icons, along with clever ways to travel ‘off-road’ and add your own imagery and text. The end result is a generous scale textile wall map on which you can stitch your own story - in a million different unique ways. 🗺️🩵

’Tis the season for the beautifully macabre! My anatomical collage series launched my exploration into embroidery embellishment, and after an extended hiatus - they’re back in my little online shop...in a new format. 🪡💀🫀

Six individual 12" x 12" samplers are printed on a single 36" x 24" piece of fabric. Two sets of printed guidelines are provided: heavier dashed cut lines to neatly separate the individual samplers and lighter dashed guidelines to hem the edges, should you so choose. These free-form samplers allow you to select the placement of your favorite embroidery stitches. Backstitch along the backbone? Stem stitch along the circulatory system? As I leaned into creating details for this years Well Crafted Sonoma creative retreat, I started with a selection of wool blend felt to create monogrammed totes, bag charms, name tags, zipper pulls and name garlands. All of this was made possible by the kindness and generosity of my friends at @benziedesign and the magic of their deep etch dies that I paired with a table top die cutting machine to create pro-looking shapes (hello oak leaves, bunting banners and stitchable letters!)

My dream team color palette line up in Benzie’s beautiful wool blend felt was: Blush, Bronze, Mustard, Swan, and Zucchini. Big bonus - on their website, they suggest the perfect shade of @dmc_embroidery embroidery floss to perfectly complement each color of felt - which is an embroiderer’s dream! ✨🪡✨

What a week! What a wonderful, Well Crafted Sonoma, week. Warmest of thanks to our 24 participants who traveled from 11 different states to join us for our creative retreat, tucked between the gorgeous vineyards and rolling foothills of Northern California. You arrived with curiosity, good humor and kindness - and the result was a five day celebration of handcraft and community. In the words of our poet pal @harrybakerpoet, “The very fact that you exist makes everything a bit more magic.” ✨❤️✨

This is the extended souvenir edit compilation of the many photos and videos we gathered from our time together. I’ll share shorter, more focused posts in the coming days - but for now, it’s nice to have a highlights reel to share with family and friends. 📸

Three cheers for thoughtfully prepared workshops that dovetailed beautifully with my own - expertly presented by my talented friends and colleagues @catheholden and @rebeccasaylorstudio. And to the welcoming teams at @sonomabotanicalgarden and @benzigerwinery, thank you a million times over for making our off-site adventures just brilliant. 🌿🍷
