New samplers for my upcoming Embroidered Valentine New samplers for my upcoming Embroidered Valentine Botanicals Workshop just arrived and I’ve trimmed and a hemmed the first example. 💐🪡 Before even embellishing this one with embroidery, I wanted to share how gorgeous the colors are in this design - the printing is *chef’s kiss*! Join me at the San Francisco Botanical Garden, in the heart of Golden Gate Park, on Saturday morning, February 8 to add embroidered color, texture and charm to this fabric panel. Blooming season has begun! 🌸 The magnificent ma Blooming season has begun! 🌸 The magnificent magnolia trees at the San Francisco Botanical Garden are starting their annual show and if you head on over the the @sfbotnicalgerden feed you’ll be treated to a sneak peek. I've created an original collage of vintage imagery featuring the @sfbotanicalgarden's famed Magnolia campbellii varietal and printed it on linen cotton fabric - the perfect canvas for your embroidery embellishment! While I won’t be teaching this particular workshop at the Garden this spring, you can still find this large 18x27” panel (wall hanging/tea towel scale) in my little online shop. In the pictured sample, I utilized: the back stitch and whipped back stitch to highlight edges of the flower and tea cup, french knots to create the magnolia’s carpels and to punctuate details on the cup and saucer, and turkey work to create the three-dimensional stamen. I selected 8 shades of @dmc_embroidery floss that coordinate beautifully. Swipe left to see them laid side by side. Sending so much love to my Los Angeles friends and Sending so much love to my Los Angeles friends and colleagues. ❤️ Watching footage of so many places I adore reduced to ash has been horrifying and I can't imagine what this week has been like in person. 💔 I've spent more years in this amazing city then I will anywhere else in my lifetime. ✨One thing I know for certain is that Angelenos are incredibly resilient, resourceful, and kind - all attributes that will be incredibly important during the long rebuilding period ahead.✨
Hey friends, my first workshop of the year lands j Hey friends, my first workshop of the year lands just in time for Valentine’s Day at the @sfbotanicalgarden on Sat., Feb 8. We’ll be exploring floriography (as known as the language of flowers), a pastime popularized by the Victorians - in which symbolic meaning was assigned to all manner of botanicals. Societal constraints prevented them from verbally declaring their true feelings and so they shared their amorous intentions with flowers! ❤️💐 Join me in learning more fascinating history, and then adding embroidered color, texture and charm to a chart of vintage floral illustrations selected for their love related attributes. The end result is a beautifully embroidered textile that can be displayed as a wall hanging or utilized as a tea towel. There’s a delightful surprise element to marblin There’s a delightful surprise element to marbling. Despite best efforts to manipulate ink on the surface of your water bath, you’re never quite certain if the final print will resemble a pastel topographical map, the cross-section of a psychedelic tree trunk or imagery from a candy colored fever dream. 🩷🫠😆 Registration is now open for my Japanese Paper & Fabric Marbling Workshop at the @gamblegarden in Palo Alto on Sunday, February 23. No previous experience is necessary and everyone leaves with a complete kit to continue making at home! The magical link in my bio contains all of the details.
✨Sound on!✨ What better way to ring in the new ✨Sound on!✨ What better way to ring in the new year than to celebrate this sweet girl’s 14th birthday! She’s aging gracefully-ish and takes her senior self-care seriously - with regular sunbathing, long walks, longer naps and a healthy dose of daily cuddles. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - we’re so lucky to love her in this season. 🐶❤️
